Campbell and Son (Bob Campbell Sr.) started selling
cars here in Chatham in August of 1948. Located on
Queen Street, the father and son team sold used
vehicles to many of the residents of the city of
Chatham and the surrounding communities. Due to a
restriction in space the Campbells decided to move
their aspiring small used car business to a larger
location on Grand Avenue East in the winter of 1954.
As the city of Chatham started to mature the family
business was once again relocated to 383 Richmond
Street. This area became the home of most automobile
dealerships along with many small service outlets,
which helped the Campbell family business grow with
the industry. |
|
After the passing of his father in 1959 Bob Sr. ran
the business, now known as Bob Campbell Motors Ltd.,
on his own until 1972 when one of his sons Todd
started in the family business. Bob and Todd
continued to do business on Richmond Street selling
used vehicles into 1979 when the opportunity to
represent Toyota came available and they jumped at
the chance to have a new vehicle line of
automobiles. Soon after the acquisition of the
Toyota franchise Kim, Bob Jr., and Kerri all
children of Bob Sr. took on different
responsibilities at the dealership changing it from
a sales oriented business to a full service
automotive environment. The business continued to
operate at 383 Richmond Street where small additions
and alterations were made over time to keep up with
the growing popularity of the Toyota product.

| In
October 2002 the staff of Campbell Toyota moved into
a new state of the art location at 296 Richmond
Street in Chatham just down the street. We look
forward to a very successful, bright future where we
can keep this once small used car business growing
into a full service automotive dealership that can
satisfy all of our customers automobile needs. |
